Left 4 Dead
Did this review a while back so I'm just copying and pasting on here to get the ball rolling. It's not good but it's not bad. Also the sections are mandatory for the forum I put this on.
Introduction
Zombies and gaming. They have a long history don't they? What with
Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark and many more. But none
of them quite match up to the experience which is, Left 4 Dead.
Single Player and Multiplayer
The idea behind Left 4 Dead is quite simple. Get from A to B while
killing hundreds of C. C in this case being super '28 Days Later'
zombies hoping to tear you limb from limb. Also add to the equation D,
the special infected. These are special zombies that like to aid the
quite puny zombies in their quest to kill you. These consist of, a very
fat zombie that pukes on you or explodes in your face, a hoodie wearing
zombie that can leap immensely high and pin you to the floor, a long
tongue zombie which can constrict you with it's mighty tongue from a
distance, the crying Witch which will go berserk just for looking at
her and the Tank, which is self-explanatory really.
Now you on the other hand play as the four Survivors, whose job it is
to cover each others asses while blowing some zombie behind up. You do
this on four different levels, or campaigns. One sees you traveling
though a city to get to a Hospital where help is waiting for you, via a
chopper. There are five levels per campaigns and four campaigns,
totaling up to 20 levels to slaughter the undead on.
Gameplay
However, the great thing about Left 4 Dead is that no campaign is the
same twice thanks to Valve's 'AI Director'. The director likes to move
things about in each level and is constantly moving the zombie spawns
around, ammo and health kits just to make things more interesting,
meaning that every Left 4 Dead experience is different.
Sure this is all fine and dandy but, Left 4 Dead has another trick up
it's sleeve. A trick is calls Versus mode. In versus mode you play as
one of the four playable infected and working as a team you must defeat
the four Survivors. And note the emphasis on team. For you see the
infected are quite weak on there own. Sure a Hunter can pin someone to
the floor and pull their organs out but, before he can you've been shot
off by another Survivor. So say a Boomer came and exploded on all four
of the Survivors meaning the Horde of normal zombies are keeping them
occupied then you pounced on someone, you'd do alot more damage as
everyone else is busy having their screens filled by the hungry undead.
Graphics and Sound
Left 4 Dead wasn't made to wow people with it's graphics. Zombies look
like Zombies. Buildings look like buildings. It's all very dark and at
night time just to add to the horror. The sound on the other plays a
major part in the game. Walking along to hear the whaling of a witch
and then as you get closer her theme tune starts kicking in. Also as
you've slayed a horde of zombies the last thing you want to hear is the
Tank's theme tune playing in the background. Usually at this point
everyone's screaming at each other "OH CRAP, A TANK. CRAP. PEG IT!!"
Summary
So it sounds like a brilliant game so far however, Left 4 Dead has one
problem. It's not a game for people without online. This game is meant
to be played with three other people, not three other AIs. But
complaining about this is like asking a washing up machine to do the
dishes. It's not supposed to and it doesn't. Sure you could try to do
your dishes in a washing machine and you could try to get the same
multilayer experience in a single-player mode but, it ain't gonna
happen. Another problem is that there is only four campaigns and it can
get a tad repetitive quite quickly but, Valve have planned some DLC for
Left 4 Dead which will hopefully include some new levels.
So finally, despite all it's short comings, Left 4 Dead is fun. Very,
very fun. The most fun you'll have with friends in a long time.
+ It's fun. Very fun.
+ Good to see different kinds of Zombies...
+ ...playing as them is great fun too.
- More levels are needed to make this one of the best gaming experiences ever.
- Waiting ages to respawn as a zombie isn't that fun Valve...
. Buy.

Nice review. Quite useful especially for someone who was considering getting the game. I might pick this up after my birthday

Re: Left 4 Dead
I'm going to get:
COD4
COD5
L4D
Very soon - won't be on them much till the 20th. Not that revision is working because I can't remember shit from my higher courses.
That's what happens when you go back to school half way through the course after failing football from guaranteed signing for a shit team who then goes into administration.
Fuck off Gretna.
Anyway. (: ..I'll have this soon. n_n

Re: Left 4 Dead
Brilliant game. I have it on PC though, so I won't have it for 360 unless I think of a really good reason to, or if I have more money than sense.
