Sims 3 Thread *Specs Revealed*
FOR WINDOWS XP
Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
FOR WINDOWS VISTA
Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
1.5 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above.
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
0.5 GB additional RAM
What does all this mean then?
Sims 3 will run happily on older machines. Any dual core laptop from the past 2 years should be fine (As most dual core intels use the GMA chipset by default). Single Core desktops should also be fine from the past 2 years (Pentium Ds are older than time itself these days
If your computer can run the "Apartment Life" expansion pack then you should be in the clear since that upped the minimum specs quietly.
If you want advise on how your computer will run then just ask in thread and I'll happily talk you through what you might/might not need to do to play Sims 3.
Use this thread to discuss the game of 2009 (Yes it will be the game of 09

I can't wait, and these specs are not as high as I thought they would be.
A good game to try out on my new PC when I get it methinks.

Basically, if it can run Spore, it will run Sims 3. That's what EA have said anyway.

Lucky B.... xD
Just find out if its any good or not. My biggest concern is the whole open neighbourhood thing because that sounds quite demanding on a computer.

Funnily enough, we've all been given different things to focus on playing and giving comments on, and I've been given 'open neighbourhoods'.
If I can get screenshots/pictures, I'll post them up here

Re: Sims 3 Thread *Specs Revealed*
Oh yeah, forgot to post in this. The game is awesome if you like Sims 2.
No more of the blue loading screens.
When you zoom out on your Sims' house, you have the option to zoom out and see the whole neighbourhood. Above all of the important places are icons (Hospital/Book store/Cinema/etc).
Click on whichever one you want to go to and your sim will just walk/drive/bike/taxi there. The same happens if you click anywhere on the neighbourhood, and you get no loading or anything. You can even follow your Sim if you like.
The buy/build menu is so much more streamlined. Not gonna spoil that, but you'll see what I mean straight away.
Customizing literally anything is very easy to do. You click one button to bring up the create-a-pattern menu, and there is a drop down list of materials (wood/metal/fabrics/tiles/etc). Then you pich which one you like, change the hue of it, whatever. I ended up with a Sim wearing a cow skin shirt, leopard print vest, brick looking trousers, and metal shoes!
Sims look after themselves much better on their own if free will is set to high. Some of the needs are gone completely too.
You can change the ageing times (from 25 sim day lifespans, to 925 I think).
A lot of the community lots are rabbit holes (in that you can't see inside them when your sim goes inside), This was a major gripe, but they'll be adding more of the insides with expansions.
Oh, and there is just the one neighbourhood atm. Again this will probably be added with expansions.
There you go Shaun/Steph

Looking at the rest of his specs, it's not unreasonable. Intel hasn't released a Processor under the Celeron Brand for years, VIA/S3G doesn't/don't make Video cards/GPU chips anymore, and a 100GB Hard Drive was standard circa 2001.

Some old computers though cant handle it and need a new motherboard which costs more. Too get the ram sorted out on my bros old computer he had to replace nigh on everything which came to about £150. He got a new computer instead.
As for the game, I think I'll pass. It'll kill my laptop and im not much of a fan of the sims.

Pfft... yeah.... A gig of DDR2 RAM.... Jim's most likely packing DDR... which is harder to come by, and requires a premium because it's Legacy Technology.
