OnLive
You may never buy a new video card ever again. Actually, the only PC gaming hardware you might ever need will cost you less than a Wii, should OnLive's potential live up to its promise.
OnLive is a new video games on demand service that may just change the way you play PC games. The brainchild of Rearden Studios founder Steve Perlman, formerly of Atari, Apple, WebTV and more, and Mike McGarvey, formerly of Eidos, the technology looks to revolutionize the way computer games are brought home. Instead of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on the latest video game hardware that will make games like Crysis playable at nearly maxed settings, let OnLive's servers handle the processing. All that's required is a low cost "micro console" or a low end PC and a broadband internet connection.

Looks very interesting.

Re: OnLive
If it can deliver everything that it's promising it could get me into PC gaming. The need to constantly upgrade my hardware puts me off PC gaming. I knew that when I got my 360 I would still be able to play all 360 games over the consoles life span, same can't be said if I were to go out and spend £500-£800 on a PC.
Odds are though we will never hear about it again.

Re: OnLive
While this sounds great, a lack of Valve cripples it in my eyes. The majority of the PC games I've bought in the last few years were made by Valve.
Still, I might look into it at some point. After all, I have a below average PC and an awesome broadband.

Re: OnLive
I suspect that while thats a good idea - it won't be allowed to happen by the console developers. Put simply - they have too much invested to allow that to happen.
Plus - what would happen if there wasn't an internet connection?

Didn't you read the article? You NEED an Internet connection to use it. You're hardly gonna buy one if you don't have the Internet. To be fair, you're probably not a PC gamer if you don't have the Internet.

I know you need an internet connection but the point is given the wide fluctuation of broadband speed at peak traffic times in the UK/US - this idea would need mammoth amounts of bandwidth to work - which would mean it would cost an absolute shitload to operate.
Sorry but this seems like a pipe dream

Re: OnLive
Probably a yearly subscription thing if it does happen.
