Re: Street Fighter IV
What are the controls like on the basic 360 controller?
I cant afford to get one of the arcade stick pad things as well as the game so I was wondering what the game plays like without it?

They're useable but not ideal. It'd be better if the d-pad wasn't so mushy - I'm stuck with using the stick. Its fine though - most moves are easy to pull off consistently. I want to try and get a FightPad at some point. The price of that arcade stick is ridiculous.

I use the analog stick too, If you can get used to that rather than the d-pad it's not too bad.

Get a fightpad. They aren't bad at all, compared to the 360 pad it's the best controller in the entire fucking world.

Never really played a SF game before, but picked it up anyway..
EDIT: Took the game out of the 360 before I broke something.

Where is SF for £25? I'll get it for 360 if I can get it at that price.

Re: Street Fighter IV
I got it at my local Asda for £27.47
I went on it for a short while last night and did some practicing with Ryu and played a couple of VS matches. The controls arent to bad when you get used to them. The graphics are brilliant IMO.

It took me a long time but I've finally started to be able to do Ryu's Ultra Combo and other combo's easily with the 360 control stick.

Re: Street Fighter IV
Charge it for a second or two by holding backwards or a downward diagonal away from your opponent, push forward, back, forward in rapid succession then a punch button and it should work, right? o.O

Yeah, although pushing forward, back, forward in quick concession without jumping or generally fucking up is hard.
Re: Street Fighter IV
If you fuck up, prepare to unfuck up. That's how Street Fighter works. If you mess up, don't get surprised, just get on with it.
Also, prepare in mid air. If you're on the floor, prepare your moves so that when you get up you can unleash the beast.
Focus Cancelling is awesome as well though. To make it work though, you need 2/3+ Combo bars.

I do it in SFII, SFIII and SFIV with the analog stick just fine...

Do you prefer the 360 version to the PS3?
I'd assume not, but I've seen you playing it a bit and I'm curious.

They are very similar if not exactly the same. The 360 version looks a tiny bit nicer but I cannot prove this yet until I play on the 37" TV in my living room (right now I'm playing on my 19" monitor). I've noticed that the PS3 version can get ranked games a lot quicker than the 360 can, it takes the 360 around 7-9 seconds for me but on the PS3 it uses lasts around 3-7 seconds (these tests are based on me going into Ranked Games, custom games 3 rounds and 99 seconds with stability). If someone were to ask me whether to get the PS3 version or the 360 version then it would depend on these factors:
- The controller they have for the 360
- How many friends you have on each console that have the game
- If you have any old controllers for different consoles
The controller issue for the 360 is a massive problem and I'm sure everyone here knows this. Street Fighter IV needs a good controller for inputs because you need to do combos to win. Do not let SF2 HDR make you think different because that game isn't too hard to play on the 360 pad but it is still horrible. If you are going to get the 360 version of the game you have to buy a Madcatz Controller or Arcade Stick, these retail from £25, (the pad) £70 (mid tier stick) and £150 (high tier stick). If you are new to Street Fighter and you pick up this game without one of these controllers you will begin to hate the game because you're trying to do things that aren't ever going to come out on that awful d-pad. For the PS3 this is not a problem because the Dual Shock 3/Six Axis is very good, it isn't perfect but it is 10x better than the 360 pad and because you can use any controller on the PS3 but I'll get back to that.
I wouldn't think having friends on 360 version would make me want to play the game more but it really has. I only got SFIV for the 360 on Wednesday and I've played 130 player games with them already which is the equivalent to around 2/3 hours. I had played around 20 player games on the PS3 version of the game and that is simply because my PS3 friends don't play SFIV too much.
Now I have a load of old controllers which I do not use; arcade sticks, Sega Saturn pads, Street Fighter Anniversary controllers for the PS2 and even more. On the PS3 as long as you can connect it via USB you can use it. This alone can make someone pick one game over the other because I've spent over £100 for these old pads/sticks and so I can still get my monies (er, dunno if I used that word correctly) worth. I play the PS3 version of the game locally with my brothers and so that is why I probably get more enjoyment out of the game. Sitting with the person who you are playing against is a lot better than playing online. If you're going to get the 360 version of the game to play with people at your home then you might want to get two fightpads because you are going to have a massive advantage when using one.
So to answer your question.. Both games are extremely identical and so they are both equally as good. Playing against my friends on the 360 is great but playing locally on the best controller in the existence of the entire world (yes, I'm not joking) is great too.
I've just realized I've made a giant post for a two sentence answer :/
