And Activision Milks Guitar Hero Even Further...

Post by Elmand on Thu Feb 12, 2009 7:31 pm

Activision is planning a Guitar Hero 'greatest hits' compilation, due to be released this year.

The information came in a conference call from Activision CEO Mike Griffith, so there's not much information to go on other than it'll be released in Q2 this year.

It will also include "full-band versions of some of the most popular songs from previous Guitar Hero games and will be made available for the 360, PS3 and Wii."

What a fucking pisstake. Yet I know I'll fucking end up buying it.

Ill buy it, there are plenty of songs from the first Guitar Hero that I'd love to play simply with a working HO/PO system. Guitar Hero is arguably one of their most popular franchises going, they can't help but milk it. Its morons like me that support them by buying each and every game, but I love them, so I won't stop.

Music games piss me off. They are the worst gaming Fad since those fucking Dance mix games. They masquerade how pointless they are by essentially templating a fucking BUTTON MASHING GAME with a rock music theme, a McDonalds toy esque guitar and some crappily made modes.

The sooner these fucking games die the better. There is nothing fun about button mashing mindlessly (not freely of course) and there is certainly nothing fun about a game that requires time over any form of skill.

No form of skill?

That's bull, by that means you can claim Mega Man requires no skill because you put enough time into you'll get the timing. Its the same with all games, put in enough time and you'll get good.

Is playing the real guitar skill? Yes, it requires precise timing and to know the general layout of the guitar. Granted the real guitar requires more training to play well, but some songs are actually harder in GH than in RL, for example Monkey wrench, a relatively easy song to play in real life, certainly harder in GH.

Point being GH requires timing, which is the general basis for all skill in games.

Ok not so much 'no skill' in terms of difficulty. However the game IS just one core element.

See colour, push button.

It's the skill game of the casual gamer, they finally have something that they can be good at, mainly because the real gamers are so fucking bored by the ONE game mechanic that they either don't try or don't care.

lol? again.

I am a real gamer. I have been a gamer my whole life. Just because I am good at Guitar Hero games, I am therefore a casual gamer and can't be bothered putting time into hardcore games?

Halo can be classed as 1 core element, see enemy, shoot.
Fifa, get ball, score a goal.
Disney Sing it, sing like a motherfuckin champion.

No...you just have bad taste.

Anyway, all of the above include more than that. GH seriously ONLY involves the one mechanic, either way, I guess it's cool. If you like a game that's a series of quick time events till the games over without the cool cutscenes, then that's just you.

I has more than 1. The clicking and moving of the hands count as each individually, then you've got hammer-ons and pull-offs.

And Im guessing you havnt seen all those cool scenaries in GH? If someone did that on stage that be awesome, so whats the difference?

Funny how a Nintendo fanboy still finds time to be a bigger 360 fan as well.

Which of those doesn't include seeing a colour and pushing a button to be guaranteed success?

I hate "rhythm based music games" (LOL) ...But that's just my opinion. There becomes a point where you realise you aren't a rock god, but a cunt with a plastic toy. And I mean cunt in the nicest possible way for people who like these games. (:

Like when you're playing Gears, Halo or CoD and realise your not a huge bullet eatting man, a super soldier or a war hero, right?

Not everyone who plays these games thinks they are rock gods. I know it's a game, I play it as a game. I just happen to be fucking good at it.

Exactly where I stand. Hey, I've even tried playing real guitar and didn't enjoy it, you can't really ask for more.

I just find it fun... when I play it, I know Im just some guy sat there with a plastic guitar, but I still find it an enjoyable game to play, hency why I kept playing it, getting better and better.

And yeah, Guitar Hero takes skill > time. Some of my friends have been playing as long as I have who aren't quite as good as me.

I have to say, I do like the GH games, as you can really see the progress you are making. I can remember taking it home and trying hard, just to see what it was like. I failed miserably, and went to easy.

Now I can do quite a lot on expert, and its good to know you've improved.

It's also a part casual part hardcore game. It can be played casually like any game, you can just play the songs you like and not really care how many notes you hit and your score.

Or you can play hardcore like Exodist, Sonic and I play. We try to get 100% on certain songs, try and maximize our scores by using starpower in the correct places, log onto Scorehero to improve our ranks on the leaderboards etc.

The main reason why they're not nearly my favourite game is because I'm utter shit at them. I can barely do hard. Then again, if I learnt how to do hammer-ons/pull-offs, I'd probably do alot better.

Just keep it at. I did Guitar Hero 1 on Expert without HO/PO... mainly because the damn HO/PO system was broke. I still managed to do most of GH2 on Expert without using the HO/PO simply because they were new to me and I needed to get the hang on them. Hard is easy anyway. Wink

And yeah, like Troopah said, I play to improve my score. I've got over 30 Expert FC's on GH3 and there are plenty more for me to try (that are achievable for me at least). I do log into Scorehero to check star power paths, but to be honest I can't be arsed to take pictures and shit so I don't upload many scores. They're pretty out-dated now. But yeah, I play Guitar Hero HARDCORE.

Guitar Hero is instant success.

Real guitar isn't.

That's the main difference that people can't accept, some people don't want to spend years trying to learn to play a song on guitar which they can play right away on guitar hero.

Elmand, looks like you're already excited at the possibility of this. I look forward to playing some of those GH1 songs with decent HO/PO. Drums on songs should be interesting too. Hope this is all true... its only a rumour now right?

EDIT - Nevermind, just the songs are rumoured. Have to admit I look forward to this in many ways...

As I never had 80's or GH1 there'll be some new songs, and there are songs I'd like to play on other instruments, but regardless of that it is still a blatant cash-in that I'll end up buying.
